Autumnal Abundance Necklace
It think it was at my first job, where I worked selling Native American jewelry in a little tourist shop, that I first came across the notion that rings and bracelets were worn for yourself (because you could see them) while necklaces and earrings were worn for others (because you could not). I think I held to this idea until I made my first Laurels necklace, at which point it had to be retired immediately.
See, when I put on a big and unapologetic necklace, I find that I stand a little taller and greet my days a little more boldly. It doesn’t matter that I can’t see the piece hanging in that space above my heart - because I can feel it. And I seek out that feeling of being my best self FOR myself.
This necklace was made, in particular, to celebrate a feeling of abundance. I was sorting stones, making little arrangements, only to be struck by the knowledge that these amber cabochons needed to stay together. Yep, all of them. So I placed each as though I was arranging flowers, or dried leaves, and suspended them together on a strand of Blue Ridge turquoise beads. In this season of my life, I am continuing to challenge that feeling that says I may not have enough, indeed that I may not BE enough, by letting all that I am come forward. I have so much to give, so much to share - there’s no need to hold back any longer. This offering, in metal and stone, is that feeling brought to life.
Let it be a call to bring your brightest self to all of your endeavors as well.
